QUESTION NO. 1

QUESTION: Councillor F. Timmons

To ask the Chief Executive for a detailed report on Corkagh Park work that includes cost breakdown, what's left to be done and toilet provision within the park.

REPLY:

Works completed to date under the Corkagh Park Masterplan include improvements to the St. John's, Green Isle Road and Outer Ring Road car parks, the development of a new central hub area incorporating a café building and events space, and the upgrade of the Fairy Tree Trail play area.

The current financial position of the principal capital works contracts is as follows:

  • Total project expenditure to date is approximately €5.4 million (ex. VAT) against a total committed project value of approximately €6.0 million (ex. VAT).
  • Remaining committed expenditure is approximately €606,800 (ex. VAT), representing works and project elements yet to be completed and closed out.
  • The final account has not yet been agreed and remains subject to completion of outstanding works and final reconciliation of project costs.

The principal outstanding element of the project is the delivery and installation of the park's signage and wayfinding strategy, which is currently being progressed in line with the Council's updated branding guidelines. Other remaining works include the provision of a substation at the Green Isle Road Car Park to facilitate the future installation of electric vehicle charging infrastructure, together with the electrification of car park entrance gates.

In relation to toilet provision, public toilet facilities are available within Corkagh Park. Maintenance and repair works have been undertaken where required, and the facilities continue to be monitored and maintained to ensure an appropriate level of service for park users.

The Council will continue to progress the remaining elements of the current phase of works, including signage, electrical infrastructure and project close-out, with a view to further enhancing visitor facilities within the park.
