MOTION: Councillor F. Timmons
That this Area Committee requests that SDCC engage with the owners of the "RIC" building on Old Nangor Road to ascertain their plans for the site and, if there are no proposals to develop this protected structure, to explore the possibility of acquiring the building.
REPORT:
This site was added to the Derelict Site Register on the 22nd of January 2026 and assigned reference DS 1715. South Dublin County Council actively monitors the Derelict Sites Register and takes the actions available under the Derelict Sites Act 1990. The publicly available Derelict Site Register can be viewed at the following location:
The Derelict Sites section has recently requested an updated ownership reference check, to ascertain the current ownership details. Once finalised, we will write to the site owners seeking an update on the site.
Acquisitions under the Derelict Sites Act 1990 may only be considered by a local authority where other statutory functions under the Act, have failed to remove a site from a state of dereliction, as defined in Section 3 of the Derelict Sites Act 1990.
Derelict Sites will liaise with the Conservation Officer and the Property Management section to explore the viability of a potential acquisition.
