QUESTION NO. 4

QUESTION: Councillor L. O'Toole

Can the Chief Executive provide an urgent update on the recurring flooding on Esker Road, immediately outside the cottages which occurs during periods of heavy rainfall. It is acknowledged that a road-opening licence is required to facilitate the necessary works however, given the severity and regularity of the flooding can the Council confirm that a plan is now being put in place as a matter of urgency including a timeframe for the required works and any interim measures that can be taken pending completion?

REPLY:

Natural Water Operations are aware of this flooding issue and work closely with our Road Maintenance and Road Traffic Control teams on a daily basis to ensure any works on the road network is carried out safely.

A traffic management team, CCTV crew and jetting truck attended the location and carried out desilting of the surface water network in the area.

The CCTV survey has identified irregularities within the surface water network that were not previously recorded on our system. It should be noted that the gullies are clean and are operating correctly.

Further investigation is required to determine the network issue and to identify the appropriate remedial measures. This is being progressed without delay.
