MOTION: Councillor W. Carey
That this Area Committee agrees, that we wish to express concern about the recent (01/09/2026) fire at a waste facility in the Clondalkin area. This committee notes that this is the third such fire in recent years with the other two taking place directly adjacent to the area ( both along Killeen Rd ). In doing so we request that the manager request a report from the fire officer to be presented to this committee and to address concerns of any commonality as to the causes and concerns about fumes and emissions emanating from these.
REPORT:
On receipt of this motion, the Chief Fire Officer was contacted and the following response to the motion was received -
DFB are unable to comment on the commonality of these fires as any identification as to their causes would be speculative. It is not within the remit of the Fire Service to identify the cause of fires, this lies within the expertise of An Garda Siochana forensics.
Regarding fumes and emissions from such fires, the advice remains the same for all large fires, for local residents downwind to remain indoors with their windows and doors closed and await further instructions from the emergency services. There are no more significant emissions from such fires, than any other large scale commercial or industrial related fire.
