QUESTION NO.11

QUESTION: Councillor Joanna Tuffy

To ask for an update on the landscaping at the end of Elderberry Finnstown and any Council schedule of work planned or carried out.

REPLY:

The grass verge at the end of the road in Elderberry was taken in charge as part of the road taking-in-charge process. The area is subject to significant shading from trees growing on the verge and within the adjacent estate. As a result, the grassed area beneath the tree canopy receives reduced sunlight and lower levels of natural rainfall due to interception by the trees. These conditions inhibit grass growth and can lead to thinner or patchy grass cover in this location.

Unfortunately, this situation cannot be fully resolved while the trees remain in place, as the shading and competition for moisture are inherent effects of established tree cover. The condition of the grass in this area is therefore likely to remain variable.
