QUESTION NO.11

QUESTION: Councillor Joanna Tuffy

To ask for an update on the Limestone at the Village Green, as some residents have raised apparent staining of the stone.

REPLY:

The limestone surface at the Village Green has been inspected following reports from residents regarding staining. The Council has appointed a specialist contractor to undertake deep cleaning works to the affected areas.

Investigations indicate that much of the staining is attributable to animal fats and food residues which have penetrated the porous limestone surface over time. As a result, specialist cleaning methods are required to effectively remove the staining without causing damage to the stone.

Following completion of the cleaning works, a protective coating will be applied to the limestone surface. This treatment is intended to reduce the absorption of contaminants, minimise future staining, and assist in maintaining the appearance of the Village Green.

The Council will continue to monitor the condition of the area following completion of the works and undertake any further maintenance measures that may be required.
