MOTION NO. 21

MOTION: Councillor E. Ó Broin

That this Area Committee agrees that the Cherrywood Villas name stone will be moved to the Cherrywood Villas (South) side of the Old Nangor Road.

REPORT:

This Item has been raised several times in the last year.

A resident survey was carried out and completed on 8 October 2025 asking for views on whether to move the Cherrywood Villas Stone from its current position on the north Side of Old Nangor Road.

A total of 6no. residents were in favour of moving the stone to the South side of the Old Nangor Road and 5no. residents were not in favour of moving the stone and 1no. resident was not clear as to which was their preferred option. This is a split vote. There is no consensus among the residents where the name stone should be located.

Ordinary steel plate road signage is prescribed under the Road Traffic (Signs) Regulations 2024 (S.I. No. 200 of 2024).

A name stone is not governed by the traffic signs regulations.  In the majority of cases, where non-legislated work is being carried out the Council, (work not regulated by Health and Safety or other traffic legislation) the Council listens to the wishes of the residents. Therefore, the choice of work carried out is left to resident preference.

Currently, the Council has decided to leave the name stone in its current location in the absence of any common consensus.
