South Dublin County Council Crest

MEETING OF CLONDALKIN, NEWCASTLE, RATHCOOLE, SAGGART AND BRITTAS AREA COMMITTEE

Wednesday, September 16, 2026

MOTION NO. 12

MOTION: Councillor W. Carey

That this Area Committee requests if a row of more mature and fast growing trees could be planted at the boundary green in Alpine Heights adjacent to Nangor Rd to obscure lighting emanating from cars accessing the road at the new housing at Nangor Mills.

REPORT:

The Public Realm Section will include this location on its list for consideration as part of future tree planting programmes. Any proposed planting would be subject to site suitability assessments, including confirmation that there are no underground services or other constraints that would preclude tree planting.

It should be noted that fast-growing tree species would not normally be considered, as they can present long-term management and maintenance issues. Any trees selected would be species appropriate to the location and in accordance with the Council's tree planting and biodiversity objectives.
