MOTION NO. 14

MOTION: Councillor W. Carey

That this Area Committee requests that the litter warden investigates issues of illegal dumping at the rear and side of Bawnogue Shops with a view to providing measures to tackle this problem.

REPORT:

There have been two recent reports recorded on South Dublin County Council's Environmental Complaint System (ECS) regarding illegal dumping to the rear and side of Bawnogue Shops. Both reports were investigated by the Litter Warden, however, no evidence was identified to support enforcement action under the Litter Pollution Act.

While the ECS system does not a contain a significant volume of complaints for this location, each report received helps to inform future enforcement and monitoring measures, including consideration of CCTV where appropriate, and where less intrusive measures have failed to deter illegal dumping.

As a result of this Motion, the Litter Warden has been requested to increase patrols in the area. SDCC will continue to monitor the location and respond to any reports received. Where illegal dumping is identified, appropriate enforcement action will be taken in accordance with the Litter Pollution Act.
