MEETING OF CLONDALKIN, NEWCASTLE, RATHCOOLE, SAGGART AND BRITTAS AREA COMMITTEE

MOTION NO. 19

MOTION: Councillor S. O'Hara

That this Area Committee agrees that there is a need for a permanent bus shelter at the bus terminus at Rathlawns Estate, Rathcoole, and calls on the National Transport Authority (NTA) to approve and fund its installation as a matter of priority.

REPORT:

The National Transport Authority (NTA) provides funding to South Dublin County Council (SDCC) through the Bus Stop Enhancement Programme (BSEP) for the improvement of bus stop infrastructure across the county.

Bus Stop No. 4564, Rathlawns / Holy Family Community School, Rathcoole, is included in the 2026 BSEP delivery programme. Initial civil works have already been completed by SDCC, and the location is currently awaiting installation of the bus shelter by the NTA's appointed bus shelter contractor.

The delivery and installation of bus shelters under this programme are managed directly by the NTA and its appointed contractor. Accordingly, SDCC has no control over the scheduling or delivery of the bus shelter installation once the required preparatory works have been completed. SDCC is currently awaiting the NTA's bus shelter contractor to proceed with the installation and will work in conjunction with the contractor to complete any necessary associated works required to facilitate the installation of the shelter.

SDCC will continue to liaise with the NTA regarding the progression of the works and to support the completion of the project at the earliest opportunity.
