QUESTION: Councillor L. de Courcy
To ask the Chief Executive to provide an update on plans to renovate the old swimming pool in Clondalkin, both the Clondalkin Youth Band and Clondalkin Pipe Band are still without permanent facilities and this renovation will provide the much needed space for both these bands along with other groups in the village.
REPLY:
The former Clondalkin Swimming Pool has been closed for a significant period and, to inform any future decision regarding the facility, the Council has commissioned a comprehensive assessment of the building.
The assessment includes detailed structural surveys and asbestos investigations to establish the condition of the property and identify any works that may be required. The Council is currently awaiting the final reports, which are expected in the coming weeks.
Once these reports have been received and reviewed, the Council will be in a position to consider the most appropriate future use of the building. This consideration will be informed by the condition of the facility, community needs, existing local provision, identified service gaps, and opportunities to maximise community benefit.
As part of this process, the accommodation requirements of local groups, including the Clondalkin Youth Band and the Clondalkin Pipe Band, will be considered alongside other potential community, cultural and recreational uses. The Council recognises the valuable contribution these organisations make to the community and acknowledges the challenges associated with securing suitable long-term accommodation.
A decision on the future of the facility can only be made following completion of the assessment process. Further updates will be provided once the findings have been reviewed and the options evaluated.
