MOTION: Councillor J. Sinnott
That this Council calls on the Chief Executive to develop a new tourism initiative - "The South Dublin Explorer Passport" with the aim of promoting and encouraging visitors to South Dublin attractions and sites and supporting the existing South Dublin tourism strategy which runs to 2029.
REPORT:
The Council welcomes this motion and recognises the potential value of a South Dublin Explorer Passport as a means of promoting and encouraging visits to attractions, heritage sites, cultural amenities and visitor experiences across the county, while supporting the objectives of the Council's Tourism Strategy.
The Tourism section is currently at the preliminary exploratory stage of considering such an initiative, as part of its ongoing commitment to promoting South Dublin's unique attractions, activities, culture and heritage. The concept of a visitor passport aligns with the Council's broader aim of enhancing the visitor experience, encouraging greater engagement with local destinations, increasing awareness of the diverse tourism offering available throughout the county and supporting local business.
To inform this process, information has been sought from local authorities that have already implemented similar passport schemes. This engagement will assist in identifying best practice in relation to the design, delivery, administration and promotion of such initiatives, as well as assessing their effectiveness in increasing visitor numbers and supporting local tourism development. The findings from this research will help determine the feasibility and potential benefits of introducing a South Dublin Explorer Passport. In the meantime, the Council remains committed to exploring innovative ways to promote South Dublin as a vibrant and attractive visitor destination.
