MOTION NO. 7

MOTION: Councillor F. Timmons

That this Area Committee requests the Council to identify a suitable route in Rathcoole for a new Parkrun, and to provide the necessary supports, including access to Council lands and facilities, to enable its establishment.

REPORT:

The Council recognises the positive health, wellbeing and community benefits that Parkrun events can bring to local areas. Parkrun is a free, community-based initiative organised and delivered by local volunteers, with participants able to walk, jog, run, volunteer or spectate in public parks.

Should a local volunteer group come forward with an interest in establishing a Parkrun in Rathcoole, SDCC would be happy to engage with the organisers and Parkrun Ireland to identify a suitable route and discuss any appropriate supports that may assist in its establishment.  It should be noted, any proposed route would be subject to consideration of site suitability, safety, accessibility, and existing park uses.
