QUESTION: Councillor F. Timmons
To ask the Chief Executive would he consider providing community centres bins for waste disposal as in picture to help them meet waste disposal legislation requirements and environmental issues?
REPLY:
Community centres are managed by independent Boards of Management and responsibility for the day-to-day management and operation of these facilities, including waste disposal arrangements and compliance with waste management legislation, rests with the relevant governing body.
Community centres make their own waste collection and disposal arrangements through authorised waste service providers. While SDCC does not currently provide waste bins or waste collection services to community centres, it actively promotes and supports sustainable waste management practices across the community sector.
The Government-funded MyWaste.ie website is a valuable resource for both community organisations and businesses, providing practical guidance and tools to support effective waste management. Resources available include educational materials, posters, bin labels and guidance booklets, which can be downloaded or ordered directly from: https://mywaste.ie/dispose-waste/in-your-workplace/.
