QUESTION: Councillor F. Timmons
To ask the Chief Executive for a detailed report into what progress has been made on storage issues for community groups?
REPLY:
South Dublin County Council recognises the importance of appropriate storage arrangements in supporting the effective operation of community and voluntary groups across the County. We do not, however, generally provide dedicated storage facilities for individual community groups, and responsibility for the storage of equipment, materials and other operational resources normally rests with the groups concerned.
Where storage related matters are raised, Community Officers engage directly with the relevant groups to consider whether practical options may be available within existing community facilities or through local arrangements, having regard to the availability of space, operational requirements, management arrangements and competing demands for community infrastructure.
In addition, the Climate Action team continues to support the work of Tidy Towns groups including the exploration of ways to assist the groups in meeting their storage needs in a practical, sustainable and cost-effective manner.
While suitable space remains limited, we will continue to engage with community groups, where feasible, to identify practical solutions within existing resources and local circumstances.
