QUESTION NO. 17

QUESTION: Councillor D. Loftus

To ask the Chief Executive for a report detailing the number of people in homeless accommodation within the South Dublin County Council area at the end of each of the last five years, together with the number of vacant homeless accommodation spaces available at each year-end.

REPLY:

SDCC continues to work closely with the Dublin Regional Homeless Executive (DRHE) in responding to homelessness within the County and across the wider Dublin region.

At present, there are 638 households registered as homeless with South Dublin County Council. Homeless accommodation services in the county operate at full capacity, and any emergency placements required outside of the direct local provision are arranged through the DRHE central placement system, which operates services across the greater Dublin area on behalf of the four Dublin local authorities.

There are six family hubs currently in operation as follows:

There are also three single-person hubs in operation as follows:

In relation to vacant spaces, all homeless accommodation services within the county are currently operating at full capacity. Vacancies, when they arise, are filled on an ongoing basis through the relevant placement arrangements and do not generally remain unoccupied. Any temporary vacancy is typically associated with the turnaround period between occupancies, including cleaning, maintenance and any necessary administrative arrangements prior to reallocation.

Families residing in temporary emergency accommodation facilitated by the DRHE are considered for placement in family hub accommodation within the county as suitable spaces become available. We will also continue, in conjunction with the DRHE, to actively explore opportunities to identify suitable locations within the County for the provision of additional homeless accommodation.
