QUESTION NO. 23

QUESTION: Councillor E. Ó Broin

To ask the Chief Executive to outline if there are any plans to increase the number of staff contracted by South Dublin Parking Services to monitor parking across the county?

REPLY:

The current parking services contract provides a comprehensive range of functions including enforcement, payment collection, reporting systems, mobile application support, credit card processing, maintenance of parking infrastructure and the replacement of parking machines. The annual contract value is provided for in the Council budget.

There are currently no plans to increase the number of staff engaged by South Dublin Parking Services to monitor parking across the county.  The level of resources provided under the existing contract is considered appropriate to current operational requirements and levels of parking enforcement activity. Any future review of resource requirements would be considered in the context of service demand, enforcement priorities and the associated financial implications.

It should also be noted that responsibility for the majority of parking and traffic enforcement functions rests with An Garda Síochána. The Council continues to work with An Garda Síochána and its parking enforcement contractor to target resources where they are most needed and to maximise the effectiveness of existing enforcement arrangements.
