MOTION NO.9

MOTION: Councillor W. Carey

That this Council expresses its concern regarding the water demands of data centres and, in light of increasing pressure on water resources, agrees to write to the Minister for Climate, Energy and the Environment, the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, and Uisce Éireann seeking a report on: the volumes of water used by data centres; the proportions evaporated and discharged as blowdown water; and the monitoring, treatment and environmental controls in place to ensure that any discharges do not adversely affect public health, water quality or biodiversity.

REPORT:

If the motion is passed, letters will be issued to the Minister for Climate, Energy and the Environment, the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage and the Chief Executive Officer of Uisce Éireann; the responses, when received, will be circulated to the Members.
