To ask the Chief Executive how much SDCC has spent on solar initiatives overall in the last 10 years?
REPLY:
The following summarises expenditure identified to date on solar initiatives over the past 10 years.
Where applicable, SDCC seeks to maximise external funding opportunities for solar PV and related renewable energy projects, including relevant SEAI supports and Community Climate Action Funding streams where projects are eligible. Confirmed grant income is reflected where available, while other potential supports will be considered as projects progress.
- Arthurstown Landfill Solar PV Array: Installation of a 200kW solar PV array to support aftercare treatment works at Arthurstown Landfill. Expenditure to date is €216,712, including VAT.
- Arthurstown Landfill Solar Farm Feasibility Study: Expenditure of €55,988.37 was incurred on a feasibility study for a large-scale solar farm at Arthurstown Landfill.
- Solar Bins: Expenditure to date, on the installation of solar bins is €618,360 in 2025 and 2026.
- Solar PV on SDCC-Owned Buildings: A contract was awarded to Lennon Solar in 2026, focusing on libraries and community centres. While there has been no expenditure to date, €213,924.80 has been invoiced for solar PV installation on five buildings. Grants of €95,271.90 have been obtained, leaving a net expenditure of €118,652.90.
- Participatory Budgeting Projects: CARP Killinarden was awarded €70,000 under the ‘Have Your Say’ initiative in 2024 for the installation of solar PV.
Please note that this is not an exhaustive list. A small number of buildings have solar panels installed where these were incorporated into wider capital or refurbishment projects. Work is under way to collate a register of solar PV installations on SDCC buildings, which will support more complete reporting on expenditure and installed capacity.
