QUESTION NO. 5

QUESTION: Councillor P. Holohan

To ask the Chief Executive to provide a report detailing the ratio of apartments to houses built in South Dublin County in the last ten years broken down by private and social housing?

REPLY:

In terms of general housing construction activity, the Council's data on progress since the adoption of the current South Dublin County Development Plan 2022-2028 is publicly available at: Housing Supply Monitor - SDCC. This indicates that since Q3 2022 up to the end of Q2 2026 the following residential units have been completed:

Total  Housing Units Apartments and Duplexes Houses
11,426 7,996 3,430

While the Council can provide data on its own housing delivery, the Council does not have data on the breakdown between social and affordable in private developments and generally does not distinguish between tenure for planning purposes. Planning permissions granted require social and affordable housing under Part V in the developments permitted. This is either 10% or 20% of the units proposed depending on when the land was acquired. However, following a grant of permission additional units may be provided as Part V by agreement, an AHB  may acquire/deliver units or the Council or other state body may purchase/deliver units or a site which has planning permission.
