To ask the Chief Executive to provide an update on how many adults with intellectual disabilities are waiting in housing, to include the length of time waiting?
REPLY:
In accordance with the National Housing Strategy for Disabled People 2022–2027, SDCC operates a medical housing list to support applicants whose housing needs are impacted by a medical condition or disability, including individuals with intellectual disabilities. The medical housing list ensures that assessed housing needs arising from disability-related circumstances are appropriately considered as part of our social housing allocation framework.
There are currently 268 applicants/households on the Standard Medical List and a further 257 applicants/households on the Supported Living Medical List who have been granted medical approval on the basis of an intellectual disability, sensory disability, or mental health condition.
The following table details the average waiting times for new allocations and number of allocations for households, with medical approval from 1st January 2026 to 30th June 2026, categorised by housing need:
