QUESTION NO. 3

QUESTION: Councillor S. O'Hara

To ask the Chief Executive for an update on the current status of bus shelter installations and proposed locations in Rathcoole, Saggart, Newcastle and Brittas, including details of any approved locations, planned installations, timelines for delivery, and engagement with the National Transport Authority (NTA) regarding outstanding requests.

REPLY:

The Council continues to actively progress the provision of bus shelter infrastructure across Rathcoole, Saggart, Newcastle and Brittas, recognising the importance of improving public transport facilities for local communities.

A broad range of locations has been identified and is currently under consideration. Design proposals for many of these bus stop locations have been developed and submitted to the National Transport Authority (NTA) for review. As Members will appreciate, all bus shelter and associated infrastructure proposals are subject to NTA approval, which is a necessary step in ensuring compliance with national standards and integration with wider transport planning objectives.

In relation to specific locations:

A number of additional sites are also being advanced, including proposals for hardstandings, where appropriate, to facilitate accessibility and future shelter provision. All such proposals remain subject to NTA review and approval.

The Council continues to engage constructively with the NTA in respect of all submissions and outstanding approvals. It is important to note that progression to construction is contingent not only on securing these approvals but also on supplier lead-in times for the manufacture and delivery of bus shelters.

Subject to these dependencies, it is anticipated that works will commence on a phased basis, with an initial target of progressing installations during the summer holiday period, where feasible.
