MOTION: Councillor Y. Collins

That this Council liaises with the OPW with a view to providing, on completion of the Whitechurch Stream Flood Alleviation Scheme, a 'letter of comfort' for residents whose properties have been affected by flooding prior to the completion of the works, to assist them in obtaining flood insurance going forward.

REPORT:

SDCC will liaise with local residents in regard to the issuing of letters following the completion of the Whitechurch Stream Flood Alleviation Scheme. 

These letters outline the flood risk to the properties of recipients and are an interpretation of the flood maps available at the time of issue. It has to be noted that the updating of the flood maps on www.floodinfo.ie is in the control of the OPW and the decision to provide flood insurance is a purely commercial decision for insurance companies.
