QUESTION NO. 7

QUESTION: Councillor P. Holohan

To ask the Chief Executive to outline the position in relation to cars damaged by potholes on roads in the County that are taken in charge?

REPLY:

In 2025, SDCC spent approximately €3,300,000 on the road work programme and an additional €250,000 on pothole repairs. A similar level of expenditure is expected in 2026.

With respect to reports of a car damaged by a pothole, a member of the public is entitled to make a claim to SDCC if they feel SDCC are at fault. Any claim made by a member of the public is referred to our insurer Irish Public Bodies (IPB). IPB investigate and make a determination on the claim. SDCC may be required to assist them in the investigation but would not be involved in the determination.
