MOTION: Councillor T. McDonald

That this Area Committee calls on the Chief Executive to undertake a public consultation on the proposed new equipment for Waterstown Park Playground, following the allocation of €20,000 under the Play and Recreation Capital Funding Scheme, and to ensure that wheelchair-accessible and inclusive play equipment is provided in line with previous commitments.

REPORT:

Public Realm are preparing plans for a major upgrade and expansion of Waterstown Park and universal accessibility is central to these plans. We are selecting a wide range of accessible equipment for children of all abilities to play together. We are also integrating many natural play features as part of a broader approach to accessibility. Public Realm have recently surveyed 250 children in Palmerstown about play and their suggestions will be included in our design plans. We will be carrying out a short online survey (on the consultation portal) to help inform the works and will have an on site meeting happening soon where playground users can share their visions for the new play upgrades with us.
