QUESTION: Councillor L. O'Toole
To ask the Chief Executive, following the recent public meeting arranged by South Dublin County Council and the new Local Community Safety Partnership in relation to the new community safety structures replacing the former Joint Policing Committee framework, whether consideration will be given to holding a similar public meeting within the Lucan area to ensure greater accessibility and participation for residents living within the north/western side of the County who may find it difficult to travel to Tallaght to attend such events. And further, whether the Council and Local Community Safety Partnership would consider a more localised community engagement approach across different parts of the County as the new structures and strategies are developed and rolled out.
REPLY:
South Dublin County Council, in collaboration with the Local Community Safety Partnership (LCSP), notes the importance of ensuring that the new community safety structures are accessible, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of all communities across the County.
The LCSP is currently in the early stages of developing its three-year Community Safety Plan. As part of this process, a programme of public engagement is being designed to capture the views, experiences, and priorities of residents, community groups, and stakeholders across South Dublin.
In this context, the Council and the LCSP are committed to facilitating broad and accessible engagement opportunities. Consideration will be given to holding additional public meetings and engagement events in a range of locations throughout the County.
Furthermore, it is intended that the engagement approach will include a mix of formats and locations, enabling more localised participation and reflecting the diverse needs of communities as the new structures are developed and implemented.
The Council will continue to support the LCSP in ensuring that community engagement is inclusive, geographically accessible, and aligned with best practice in the development of the Community Safety Plan.
