MEETING OF CLONDALKIN, NEWCASTLE, RATHCOOLE, SAGGART AND BRITTAS AREA COMMITTEE

MOTION NO. 1

MOTION: Councillor E. Ó Broin

That this Area Committee Committee agrees that the SDCC Vacant Homes Officer will take measures to address the two side by side long standing vacant homes on Main Street, Clondalkin at ADDRESS SUPPLIED.

REPORT:

An inspection has been arranged by the Housing Inspector to review the status and condition of these properties. Contact details for the Vacant Homes section will be left for the attention of the registered owners. The Vacant Homes section will liaise with the Derelict Sites section if the properties are considered to be derelict, and an inspection will be arranged by the Senior Clerk of Works under the provisions of the Derelict Sites Act 1990.

The property meets the criteria for consideration to purchase under the Urban Regeneration and Development Fund Call 3 funding. The council will engage with the registered owners to bring the properties back into use or to examine the possibility of acquiring the properties.

A re-inspection of all properties listed on the council’s Vacancy Survey will be carried out in the coming months to evaluate the current condition and status and to provide information to the registered owners regarding the grants and schemes available to bring the properties back into use.

The Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage recently launched new grant supports to bring vacant properties back into use. This information is being incorporated into an information leaflet that will be delivered to all properties that are confirmed as vacant and/or derelict in the County to bring the properties back into use as principle private residences or as rental properties.

Further information on the grants and schemes including frequently asked questions and application forms are available on the Council’s website Vacant Homes - SDCC.
