QUESTION: Councillor A. Smyth

"To ask the Council for an update on the solar panel project and a timeline for completion of solar panels on community centres?"

REPLY:

SDCC’s programme to install solar PV on community centres and libraries is underway with an initial 10 buildings selected in the first package of works. One community centre was originally included for upgrade of solar PV but it has been confirmed that the existing solar PV in place is operational and to a suitable standard/capacity.

Works are proceeding on the 9 buildings. Data collection, preliminary design, site survey, detailed design, and ESB (NC7) applications have been completed, as listed in the table below.  Ballyroan Community and Youth Centre is currently at detailed design stage.

Of the 9 connection applications submitted to the ESB:

• 1 has full approval from ESB
• 4 have received a connection offer and are awaiting final approval, following the connection payment.
• 4 are awaiting updated offers from ESB

Pending approval of these applications, installation on site for these buildings is expected to begin the week commencing the 15^th June 2026, with further installation dates in July and August 2026.
