QUESTION NO.1

QUESTION: Councillor S. O'Hara

To ask the Chief Executive to provide an update on measures being taken to address ongoing litter pollution in the Camac River, particularly in light of the CTT solution being denied by SDCC.

REPLY:

Measure that are being taken to intercept litter prior to it ending up in the River Camac at the Civic Offices include the following: The plaza in front of the Civic Offices is included in the village cleansing route and is litter picked on a regular basis.  The litter bin at the Civic Plaza was recently upgraded to a solar compactor litter bin.  This is one of 20 solar bins in Clondalkin village.  The new bins compact waste on site, increasing capacity by up to five times compared to a standard litter bin. They are fitted with smart monitoring technology which provides real-time fill-level data, allowing collections to be planned more efficiently and reducing unnecessary vehicle movements.

SDCC recently took delivery of two electric green machines, one of which is located in Clondalkin Village.  The green machine is also being used to control litter in this area.
