MOTION NO. 16

MOTION: Councillor W. Carey

That this Area Committee agrees that the Council shall provide for a safe pedestrian route to Sacred Heart School, Sruleen, from Green Isle Road and to provide for safe crossings at the junction of Hazelwood Crescent and also the junction of Oakway/Willow Drive and to give strong consideration to provide a crossing assistant (lollipop lady) for this School.

REPORT:

In response to the motion, it is noted that there is already a controlled pedestrian crossing located outside the Green Isle Hotel on Green Isle Road/Old Nass Rd, which provides a safe crossing point for pedestrians travelling to and from Sacred Heart School, Sruleen. In addition, there are uncontrolled pedestrian crossing facilities at the junction of Hazelwood Crescent and at the junction of Oakway/Willow Drive. Continuous footpaths are provided along the Green Isle section road.  It is acknowledged that the Hazelwood crescent junction could benefit from some traffic calming works to narrow the wide radius junction. However, the traffic calming programme for 2026 is already decided.  The traffic section will bring a new proposal for safety improvement at the Hazelwood junction to the members and have a section 38 process completed in 2027.
