MOTION: Councillor V. Casserly
That the Manager identify, over the past six months, the specific locations within Lucan Village, the Griffeen Valley Park corridor and surrounding laneways where illegal dumping and littering have been occurring, and outline the current enforcement actions, CCTV options and community clean-up supports available, with a view to addressing recurring dumping hotspots.
REPORT:
Enforcement and licensing sections will review reports of illegal dumping in the areas mentioned. In adherence to the LGMA’s codes of practice for the use of CCTV for the prevention, detection and prosecution of litter and waste offences, the use of CCTV should be considered as a last resort, other measures should be deployed in the first instance. These measures will continue to be deployed in conjunction with our colleagues in the Public Realm section and reviewed to determine their effectiveness.
Should these measures not address the issue, then a business case for CCTV may be prepared in the future.
