MOTION: Councillor L. O'Toole
To ask the Chief Executive whether the Community Section has experience of indoor community facilities being used for dog training sessions, either within the county or in other local authority areas. If such use has not previously occurred can the Chief Executive outline whether this would be considered feasible in principle and whether the Council would be open to considering a request of this nature should it be brought forward by an organised group subject to appropriate conditions and management arrangements.
REPORT:
The use of South Dublin’s indoor community facilities for organised dog-training sessions has not occurred to date, and I am not aware of this practice being permitted in other local authority areas. Any such request would be assessed with regard to the suitability of the facility, the capacity to maintain required health, safety and hygiene standards, the insurance and qualifications of the organising group, and the impact on other scheduled activities.
Requests should be made directly to the relevant Community Centre for consideration. Community Officers can provide signposting support where required and may be contacted at community@sdublincoco.ie.
Organisations may also apply to the Council to hold dog-training activities in public parks and should liaise with Public Realm Administration for this purpose.
