MOTION: Councillor L. O'Toole
That this Committee noting that the Adamstown Community Centre was originally designed to allow for a future extension requests that the Chief Executive provide an update on the potential expansion of the building to accommodate the growing demand for community space in the area. Given the continued and significant population growth across Adamstown and the wider Lucan area this Committee asks that the Council examine options to progress the extension of the centre as originally envisaged and provide an indicative cost feasibility assessment and timeline with a view to including the project in a future Capital Programme.
REPORT:
Dear Cllr O’Toole,
The possibility of extending the facility was considered during the original design stage. The design of the building was future-proofed to allow for a potential extension.
The Community Department work in partnership with the Council's Architectural Services to deliver a large number of capital projects, focused on both the construction new community centres and the extension and upgrade of a range of other community centres as per commitments set out in the 3-year Capital Programme. The proposed project to extend the existing building does not form of the current SDCC 3-year Capital Programme.
There is currently no available time frame or costing for an extension to Adamstown Community Centre at this time. The Planning Department will raise the matter with Architectural Services to discuss the feasibility of progressing costings for an extension, should funding opportunities arise in the future.
Yours sincerely,
Stephen Willoughby
