MOTION NO.7

MOTION: Councillor L. O'Toole

That this Committee requests the Chief Executive to confirm when the proposed public consultation will take place in relation to the boardwalk element of the Canal Urban Loop Greenway and to outline the mechanism by which this consultation will be carried out including how residents, local groups and stakeholders will be informed and given the opportunity to engage with the proposals.

REPORT:

The Grand Canal to Lucan Urban Greenway (also referred to as the Canal Loop) received Part 8 planning approval in September 2022. A subsequent non-statutory public survey was carried out in Spring 2025 to gather feedback on potential amendments to the proposed boardwalk design.

The project team is currently working to resolve outstanding land-ownership matters relating to lands located south of the proposed boardwalk area.

Once this stage is complete, the project will proceed to a Section 38 process, which will include a further non-statutory public consultation. This process will consider whether the findings of the 2025 survey should be incorporated into the scheme. The project team will continue to engage proactively with the public throughout the development of the project.
