MOTION NO.12
MOTION: Councillor Joanna Tuffy
That this Area Committee requests the Chief Executive to bring a headed report to the Committee on the outstanding works at the Village Green, including details of the proposed planting scheme and the reconstruction of the stone wall using salvaged materials. The report should outline how heritage and biodiversity considerations are being incorporated into the design and implementation of the works, and confirm the oversight arrangements in place to ensure quality and appropriate character.
REPORT:
The contractor for the Lucan Village Enhancement Scheme Comprising of the works at the Village Green, Demesne Park, and the Liffey Promenade (Weir), Bretland Construction Ltd., has advised that the works are expected to be completed and available for handover by mid-March. The contractor has also provided additional supervisory staff to the site to coordinate the remaining elements of the project and to prepare for the handover process.
Elements of work underway and recently completed
- The macadam paving of Lucan Road south of the Village Green, this works includes the provision of road marking and was extended in area at the request of the road maintenance section to complete upcoming maintenance works without further disruption.
- The improvement of the narrow section of footway at O’Neill’s and Kenny’s
- The footpath entrance at Watery Lane, of access to Lucan Weir Promenade
These elements of the scheme conclude the roadworks for the scheme.
The following significant works are to be carried out:
- Removal of defunct ESB poles and overhead cables, scheduled for this week.
- The completion of the paving surface and the landscape planting in the Village Green
- The bandstand and river side parapet wall
- The Steps form the Lucan Bridge to the Prominade
- The in-wall seating at the Demesne Park Entrance.
Landscape planting will be undertaken by a specialist subcontractor over the coming weeks and comprises of a significant number of number of plants and grassed area. The proposed planting plan is provided with this report.
