MOTION: Councillor A. Smyth
"This Committee calls on the council to fix the two stone structures in Tallaght which where damaged in recent months and to provide a expected timeline of how long this may take to be reinstated (Tynan memorial cross and "welcome to Tallaght" Ogham stone on the N81)?"
REPORT:
Following advice from the SDCC Heritage Officer and the Architectural Conservation Office, the Memorial Cross is currently with the appointed contractor for repair. Further investigation, carried out following its removal to the contractor’s workshop, identified that the extent of cracking is greater than first anticipated and that more substantial stabilisation works are required. The contractor has advised that the works are expected to be completed within the next 2–3 weeks.
The Council has also engaged a contractor to undertake repairs to the “Welcome to Tallaght” Ogham stone on the N81. A timeline for these works is currently being confirmed and will be provided once available.
