MOTION: Councillor N. Whelan
"This committee calls for SDCC to permit a naming rock to be installed at Whitebrook Estate, by the Springfield Residents Association, in keeping with other naming rocks within the Springfield Area?"
REPORT:
Permission may be granted, subject to compliance with the Council’s established procedure for the installation of naming stones. Name stones are generally located at estate entrances, on a sufficiently wide grass margin, or at the edge of open space, where they do not impact visibility, accessibility or maintenance operations.
Approval is subject to conditions, including Council agreement on the proposed location (in consultation with the Roads Department regarding sightlines), the size of the stone, and the proposed wording and font, which are normally kept to a minimum. Installation is generally undertaken by contractors on behalf of residents’ associations and may require road opening licences and appropriate insurance. Any associated planting must be agreed with the Public Realm Unit. Residents’ Associations wishing to undertake projects of this nature may be able to access financial assistance through the Council’s Environmental Improvements Grant and other community grant schemes.
