MOTION: Councillor P. Holohan
"This TAC call on the Council to establish a plan to tackle the recuring litter problem in Kiltalown Park?"
REPORT:
In recent years, South Dublin County Council has undertaken a number of improvements to Kiltalown Park aimed at encouraging greater community use, increasing passive supervision, and promoting community pride within the park. These include a significant upgrade to the existing playground, the installation of additional litter bins and new park benches. The park also contains a MUGA which is well used and is planned for upgrade in future years, subject to Sports Capital funding.
The park is maintained on a regular basis, with scheduled litter picking carried out weekly and grass cutting undertaken on a bi-weekly basis during the growing season. The Council is aware of ongoing litter issues in the area, particularly the dumping of household waste over railings adjoining the park.
All incidents of illegal dumping reported or detected in any area are investigated by the Council's Litter Warden Service and all dumped material is searched for evidence. Where evidence is found, the appropriate enforcement action is taken under the Litter Pollution Act 1997, as amended. The Litter Warden will increase inspections of this area with the aim of deterring further instances of illegal dumping at this location.
