MOTION NO.15

MOTION: Councillor V. Casserly

To call on the manager to examine and increase funding for the Festival Grant for Lucan St Patricks Day Parade. With ongoing and rising costs, I am seeking the manager to revisit this in line with increase in Budget 2026 to further enhance this much enjoyed community event

REPORT:

The Community Department offer assistance through our community grants scheme to local community festivals.

The funding granted to Lucan St Patricks Day Parade has increased over the years with their full grant application of €10,000 being awarded in 2025. This covered a large proportion of the parade costs and accounted for recent rising costs.

The 2026 grants are now open for applications and we are committed to funding this event into the future comparable with grant funding we award to other festivals in SDCC.

In addition, event organisers may also be eligible to apply for support under the South Dublin Tourism Events and Festivals Grant, which assists festivals that enhance the visitor experience and support the local economy. This provides an additional potential funding stream alongside the Community Grants Scheme.

To apply for the scheme please submit your online application here www.submit.link/eF. Please note that although there is no closing date for applications there is limited funding available. In the event the number of applications exceeds the value of the overall fund, preference will be given to the events / festivals that in the Council’s view drives tourism and helps to develop the visitor experience on offer in the area.
