MOTION NO. 9

MOTION: Councillor L. Dunne

"This Area Committee acknowledges the difficulties encountered by contractors in carrying out public lighting repairs in Brookview. The Committee therefore calls on the Manager to liaise with the Anti-Social Behaviour Unit and An Garda Síochána to identify those responsible, in order to facilitate the safe and timely completion of the works?"

REPORT:

We have been in discussion with Estate Management on this matter.

In the short term in order to repair the outages at Brookview, it has been agreed that Public Lighting will avail of a security firm already used by Estate Management to provide protection to our maintenance contractor during the repair period.

Unfortunately An Garda Siochána do not have the resources to provide the level of protection required for the duration of these repairs.

These may take several days, depending on the nature of the repairs required.

In the longer term, Estate Management will review the overall situation at Brookview with the drugs unit and community police in Tallaght to investigate a holistic approach to designing out anti-social behaviour in the area.
