QUESTION: Councillor L. Dunne
"To ask the Manager if there is any bed availability in the Tallaght area for homeless individuals with complex needs and dual diagnoses, particularly where maintaining homeless accommodation has proven challenging?"
REPLY
The Dublin Region Homeless Executive (DRHE) is provided by Dublin City Council as the lead statutory authority on the response to homelessness in Dublin and adopts a shared service approach across the Dublin region on behalf of South Dublin County Council, Fingal County Council and Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council.
The council consults with the DRHE to identify specialised placement options for clients presenting with complex support needs or dual diagnoses. These placements are contingent upon availability, and are generally situated outside SDCC's administrative area, and predominantly located within the city centre.
Visiting supports are available in Finnstown House which is privately operated emergency accommodation service for single females.
Peter McVerry Trust provides emergency accommodation placements for male clients at Killininny and Kiltipper. Both services offer onsite supports provided by dedicated staff.
All placements are provided on a shared room basis and include a standard level of support, including dedicated key workers and housing led support to facilitate long term move on pathways.
We will continue to work with the DRHE in providing sufficient emergency accommodation in supported temporary accommodation, family hubs and private emergency accommodation.
