HEADED ITEM NO. 5

HEADED ITEM: Community

Local Community Safety Partnership update.

REPLY:

The induction meeting of the South Dublin Local Community Safety Partnership (LCSP) took place on 12 December 2025, marking an important step toward strengthening collaborative approaches to community safety and wellbeing across the county.

In December, the Minister for Justice formally appointed 23 members to the South Dublin LCSP, representing a wide range of statutory agencies, local services, community organisations, and An Garda Síochána. The induction meeting introduced members to the LCSP model and outlined how the Partnership will operate in South Dublin. Members received an overview of their roles and responsibilities, governance and reporting arrangements, and the wider national context for the LCSP initiative. The session emphasised the importance of collaboration between statutory agencies, community organisations, and local residents in identifying local safety priorities and developing effective, place-based responses.

Importantly, the meeting provided an opportunity for members to meet, connect, and begin building relationships, helping to establish a strong foundation for collaborative working. Expectations around community engagement, communication arrangements, and the process for developing the Partnership’s first three-year Local Community Safety Plan were also outlined, including the use of subgroups and wider stakeholder involvement. This ensured members were well prepared for the commencement of the LCSP’s formal work.

South Dublin County Council is progressing the selection of resident representatives for the South Dublin LCSP after completing a widely promoted expression of interest (EOI) process that closed on 27 January 2026. The successful nominees will be forwarded to the National Office of Community Safety for review. Following the Minister’s formal appointment of resident representatives, an updated list of South Dublin LCSP members will be published on the Council’s website.

The first official meeting of the South Dublin LCSP will take place on 20 February 2026, during which a Chair will be elected and the Partnership will begin establishing priorities and setting out its initial programme of work.
