MOTION: Councillor F. Timmons

That this Area Committee requests SDCC to Initiate a compulsory purchase order on the lands known as the Cold cut to address deficits in community and sporting infrastructure.

REPORT:

The Council recently went through a competitive process to purchase the lands known as the Cold cut, comprising 10.82 hectares, when they were put on the open market. It would appear that the Council’s bid was unsuccessful, and it is not intended to compulsory purchase the lands. It should be noted that the Council has not been officially notified of the outcome of the tender process.

The Coldcut lands were identified as being well located, in proximity to public transport and services. As such a portion of the lands, approximately 3ha, were being recommended for rezoning on the basis of the retention of the remaining area of open space to serve the community.

A further briefing by the planning Department to the Members is planned for the 28th January in advance of the publication of the variation.
