QUESTION NO. 3

QUESTION: Councillor K. Keane

"To ask the Council what measures can they take to address the road safety issues on Cuil Duin Avenue, particularly in the light of ongoing illegal parking which dangerously narrows the road?"

REPLY:

Cuil Duin Avenue forms part of a relatively new residential development and is not currently taken in charge by the Council. As such, responsibility for the estate, including road layout, parking management, and day to day maintenance, remains with the developer.

The estate has been constructed in accordance with the Design Manual for Urban Roads and Streets (DMURS), which promotes lower vehicle speeds and a street environment that prioritises safety for all users. Issues relating to illegal or obstructive parking within the estate are a matter for the developer and, where appropriate, An Garda Síochána as the enforcing authority.

Should a formal request be submitted for the estate to be taken in charge, and once this process is completed, the Traffic Section will be in a position to review Cuil Duin Avenue and assess whether any additional traffic management or road safety measures are warranted at that time.
