MOTION: Councillor H. Farrell
That this Area Committee calls on the Manager to arrange for the existing yield signs at the roundabout between Dodsborough Road and the Old Celbridge Road (R835) to be updated to include bilingual text 'Yield / Géill Slí', in accordance with the Traffic Signs Manual, in order to promote the Irish language in the public realm.
REPORT:
The Traffic Signs Manual does not provide a bilingual option for yield signs. The signs can state either "Yield" or "Géill Slí".
While we do support the promotion of the Irish language the most important aspect to this junction is the safety of road users. Safety is supported by clear communication to road users and in this instance it would be suggested that more people would understand "Yield" and it is suggested that this is what the signs should state.
