MOTION NO. 13

MOTION: Councillor T. Gilligan

That this Area Committee request the manager present a list of play space areas proposed for 2026.

REPORT:

Public Realm held a meeting with local councillors following the December Area Committee meeting where we made a proposal for Playground works over the next 3 years.  At that meeting it was agreed that we would carry out the following works.

• Upgrade and expand play facilities at Rathcoole Park
• Upgrade and expand play facilities at Clondalkin Leisure Centre
• Install a small play area at Kilcronan.
• Expand play provision at Graydon, Newcastle, when the estate is taken in charge

Members requested that some preliminary consultation works take place about providing playspaces in Alpine Heights, Dunawley, Riversdale Crescent, Monastery Gate, Cappaghmore Estate, Cherrywood and Floraville as those areas do not have adequate play provision currently. Public Realm are currently preparing to carry out that consultation, which will inform the final list of sites and will allow us to put a 3 year schedule in operation. Regarding the sites already agreed, we will include Kilcronan and Clondalkin Leisure Centre within the programme. Similar exercises will be taking places in residential areas across the entire county, and once completed, the programme of delivery will be finalised and councillors informed.
