Items Discussed
Item No 1: Overgrown trees at several areas, The Heath at houses 20-43 & Cypress Drive.
Stephen Brady replied to the groups query.
Commitment given:
Mr Brady confirmed that Cyprus Downs estate is included in the next three-year tree maintenance programme and has already been surveyed in advance of any works. An independent assessor is being engaged to assess the trees and determine the required level of maintenance. The council is currently awaiting that report, after which works are expected to be scheduled for the first half of 2026. Any identified works will be carried out in accordance with the Council’s Tree Management Policy.
Item No 2:
Laneway at Cypress Grove South – To explore solutions for planting in this area.
Simon Crowley & Brendan Redmon replied to the groups query.
Commitment given:
S Crowley agreed to follow up directly with the residents after the meeting and link them with a council-supported, third-party horticulturist who can visit the site through the Social Credits Scheme. The horticulturist could provide practical and realistic advice on suitable planting or other solutions that take account of low light levels and ongoing maintenance constraints. Subject to that advice, S Crowley will also seek to facilitate access to a small budget for plants, ensuring that any plant selections align with Council policies, and provide ongoing guidance through the horticulturist on how the area can be maintained with minimal effort.
Item No 3:
Dangerous kerbs & paths at Cypress Grove Green/Kilvere Park.
Footpath lifting: Diarmuid Corry
Trees: Stephen Brady.
Commitment given:
D Corry confirmed he would arrange an inspection of the lifted footpath identified as a hazard and to carry out a temporary repair as a matter of urgency to remove the immediate hazard. He also agreed to respond to notified, localised footpath issues as they arise, noting that several similar matters are already on his list. Where multiple defects occur in the same location, he committed to escalating the works so they can be grouped into a larger repair scheme, potentially delivered by a contractor rather than by direct labour. In addition, it was noted that he works jointly with the Public Realm and Parks team, including Stephen Brady, to address situations where tree roots are impacting footpaths or kerbs, with decisions on repairs, root management, or tree retention or removal being made collaboratively.
