MOTIONS NO.6

MOTIONS: Councillor C. Brady

That this Committee requests that the Chief Executive engage with residents of Meadowview Grove to assess their interest in participating in the Quiet Streets Programme (allocated funding for a pilot in last years budget), with a view to addressing traffic volumes on their road. Traffic monitoring provided by a resident over a recent 14-day period recorded over 17,000 car movements, nearly 30% occurring at night, and over 1,200 heavy vehicles. Speed data shows that almost 2 in 5 cars are exceeding the 30kph limit. This data supports resident reports of high through traffic and suggest Meadowview Grove may be a suitable candidate for a pilot of the Quiet Streets Programme.

REPORT:

The Active Travel team is developing a programme to introduce ‘Quiet Streets’ within the County. As part of this initiative, a pilot scheme will be developed. To assess suitability for inclusion in the pilot, a member of the Active Travel team will meet with residents of Meadowview Grove.

Quiet Streets are designed to reduce or eliminate external vehicular traffic that uses a street inappropriately. This can be achieved through measures such as traffic calming, filtered permeability, or enforced restrictions on specific roads.
