MEETING OF LUCAN / PALMERSTOWN / NORTH CLONDALKIN AREA COMMITTEE

MOTIONS NO.17

MOTIONS: Councillor H. Farrell

To call on the Manager to urgently review and enforce consistent quality standards for road & footpath reinstatement works carried out by utilities, developers, and contractors in the Lucan, Palmerstown, and North Clondalkin areas. Recent specific examples on Newcastle Road, Castle Road, Lucan Village and R113 show, in areas, variable sub-standard reinstatement on road surfaces, gullies and paths that in many cases pose serious safety risks to motorists, cyclists, motorcyclists and pedestrians. The Council should outline measures to ensure compliance with national specifications in every case on completion, introduce stricter, timely inspections, and consider appropriate penalties for poor reinstatement.

REPORT:

SDCC currently have a higher permanent reinstatement standard than what is is prescribed in the national guidelines issued by the Department of Transport.

In the last 12 months we have increased the number of inspectors attached to our roadworks control unit and consequently increased the number of inspections on live sites.

Our current procedures already provide sufficient controls regarding permanent roadwork reinstatement. If the concerns are around temporary reinstatement then i am happy to discuss specific issues you have encountered
