MOTIONS NO.18

MOTIONS: Councillor L. O'Toole

That this Committee requests the Chief Executive to provide an update on the previously agreed motion to examine the lands adjoining the Lucan Scouts site and the Edmundsbury area with a view to their potential acquisition and future use for community purposes. That the update include details of any progress made in confirming ownership through the Land Registry and outline what steps would be required should the Council wish to proceed with the acquisition. Given the level of existing community activity in the area, including the presence of the Scouts and interest from local groups such as Lucan Men's Shed, it is important that this opportunity continues to be actively explored to enhance community facilities in Lucan.

REPORT:

The land on which the Lucan Scouts Den is situated and a portion of the surrounding area to the east of the site are in the registered ownership of the Council, with the Scouts currently occupying part of this land. The remaining lands further to the east, while part of the broader vicinity, are not in the Council’s ownership. The area outlined in the map associated with the previous motion is partly owned by the Council and part unregistered. While Economic Development examined the history of ownership at the location, clarity on any intended future use is important.

The Community Department will continue to keep under review the overall provision of community facilities across the county and will consider opportunities for enhancement and development as they arise within the framework of the County Development Plan.
